Home Far From Home

“Home Far From Home” is more than a photo book; it’s a twelve-year exploration of identity, displacement, and resilience, chronicling five decades of Iranian migration to America. The design translates the emotional cadence of Hossein Fatemi’s photographs into a visual and typographic rhythm—one that mirrors the ebb and flow of belonging and estrangement. The typographic system embodies the duality of voices within the diaspora, interweaving English and Farsi; two scripts that coexist in tension and harmony. This bilingual dialogue reflects the experience of being rooted yet displaced, cohesive yet fragmented. Selected Persian poems containing the word “HOME”—such as “One must rebuild the home anew” (Ferdowsi) and “My home is cloudy” (Nima Youshij)—appear throughout the book as quiet anchors of cultural memory. Illustrations serve as poetic interludes, extending the story beyond the lens to evoke the shared emotions of migration. Together, photography, typography, and illustration form a layered visual language, an intimate meditation on the Iranian diaspora’s enduring search for homeland.
